Saz and mandolin/guitar/accordion improvisations recorded in the French Pyrenees, during Matthew's spring 2005 travels.
Notes
Matthew - saz Inge - mandolin, acoustic guitar, accordion A few things have been spliced in places, and a bit of compression, reverb and EQ added - otherwise all straight from MiniDisc. Notice the curious auric field manifesting between Matthew and Inge's brains! 1-2 based on vague themes we have been individually developing (Inge playing mandolin throughout, unless stated otherwise). 3-4 and 6 completely freeform saz and mandolin jams. 5 is a jam emerging out of "25 Years of Inge", a tune Matthew wrote for her 25th birthday in Cornwall, some years back. 7-9 are loosely based on Irish tunes, recorded on St. Patrick's Day as part of a recorded message for our friend Alan (Flemish/Irish/Scouse/Rasta) now living in Aotearoa/New Zealand. 10 was our first attempt at involving Inge's accordion playing in our music - a bit wobbly, perhaps, but a really lovely ending. 11-12 recorded on the afternoon of the Spring Equinox, in some woods near Inge's home - she's playing a theme she's been working on for acoustic guitar 13-15 recorded on the evening of the Equinox. Colin can be heard playing faint percussion (darbuka), also there is some crackle and pop from the fire we were sitting around. Track 15 is a jam based around "25 Years of Inge". |

These may be mostly musical doodlings but they are such a pleasure to listen to and very inspiring when it comes to making films. I used the saz and accordion jam recently in a video I made about the Salon Bio at Guichen near Rennes. It just worked with the images and spirit of this rural, organic fair so well, you would have thought the musicians were 'sur place'. Thanks again to Ail Fionn for making this music available.
